Job Title: Daytime Supervisor / Barista
Position Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Lead Bartender / Bar Manager
Location: Nicholas Street, Limerick
Summary:
The Daytime Supervisor / Barista is responsible for overseeing daily bar operations during daytime shifts, focusing on maintaining high-quality customer service and ensuring the bar runs efficiently. This role includes supervising staff, handling cash management, and providing excellent barista services by creating and innovating drinks to cater to our customers’ preferences.
Additionally, the Daytime Supervisor is responsible for preparing simple food items, following established procedures (SOPs), and fostering a welcoming, friendly environment in line with the bar’s customer
demographic.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Barista Excellence & Drink Innovation:
- Barista Skills: Prepare high-quality coffee drinks (espresso, lattes, cappuccinos, etc.) while maintaining consistency and efficiency during busy times.
- Drink Innovation: Create and experiment with new beverages (coffee-based, non-alcoholic, or cocktail alternatives) to offer unique options for customers, adapting to seasonal trends and customer preferences.
- Menu Recommendations: Suggest drink pairings or upsell items to enhance the customer experience and increase sales.
- Customer Engagement: Build rapport with regular customers and greet new patrons warmly, ensuring the bar is always a welcoming, friendly environment.
- Demographic Connection: Understand the bar’s customer base, engage with them about the drink menu, and ensure their needs are met, helping to create a loyal clientele.
- Customer Feedback: Actively seek customer feedback on drinks and overall service, addressing any concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- SOP Creation & Implementation: Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to improve bar efficiency, service quality, and staff consistency.
- Staff Support: Supervise Tier C staff during daytime shifts, offering guidance, training, and feedback to ensure smooth operations.
- Shift Management: Manage the day-to-day workflow, including scheduling, task delegation, and shift transitions, ensuring that all areas of the bar are prepared for service.
4. Cash Handling & Financial Oversight:
- Cash Management: Oversee daily cash transactions, handle the cash register, balance the till at the end of shifts, and ensure all transactions are accurate.
- Monitoring Margins: Monitor beverage and food margins, ensuring pricing strategies align with profit goals. Recommend adjustments as needed to maintain profitability.
- Sales Reporting: Record and report sales data to the Lead Bartender / Bar Manager, providing insights into trends and suggesting improvements.
- Basic Kitchen Skills: Prepare simple food items like snacks, sandwiches, or small plates in line with the bar’s menu offerings. Follow food safety and hygiene protocols.
- Cross-Training: Work closely with the kitchen team to ensure smooth communication between the kitchen and bar, especially during peak hours.
- Food Presentation: Ensure that all food items are presented attractively and consistently, maintaining the bar's quality standards.
- Daytime Maintenance: Ensure the bar area, kitchen, and sitting spaces are clean and organized throughout the day, conducting regular checks for cleanliness and stock levels.
- Stock Management: Oversee restocking of supplies during the day, making sure all beverages, ingredients, and tools are ready for use.
- Compliance: Adhere to health, safety, and licensing regulations, and ensure all staff comply with established standards.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a barista or supervisory role in the hospitality industry.
- Barista Expertise: Strong knowledge of coffee preparation and the ability to create innovative drinks to suit various customer preferences.
- Leadership Skills: Proven experience in supervising staff, managing daily operations, and handling cash transactions.
- Customer Service: Excellent communication and customer service skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and multitasking abilities to ensure efficient bar operations during busy periods.
- Basic Kitchen Knowledge: Ability to prepare simple food items, following basic food safety and hygiene practices.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to address customer issues and staff challenges efficiently and professionally.
- Tech Skills: Familiarity with POS systems, cash handling, and inventory management tools.
